New Efficient and Effective Means of Counseling

I am always on the look out for new, efficient and effective means of counseling people. How can one quickly and in a straight-forward manner evaluate and exhort people aright? Some might think that counseling is difficult, requires long hours of preparation and even longer hours actually meeting with the counselee. Well, I am pleased to have come across a couple of techniques for counseling that may make it possible for just about anyone to do.

The first I learned from Dr. Al Mohler, who serves as president of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, the flagship school of the Southern Baptist Convention and one of the largest seminaries in the world. At the Shepherd’s Conference 2006 held at Grace Community Church (John MacArthur), Dr. Mohler offered such a counseling technique to quickly get to the heart of an issue and to the resolution of the matter by asking three questions:
  1. What’s your problem?
  2. What would God have you do about it?
  3. Why are we having this conversation?

Now, for those of you who think this may be just a bit too straight-forward, consider watching this little training video on proper counseling techniques. It is about 6 minutes long but you may find this insightful. (I hope everyone realizes this is all in fun).

Thank you. Very funny clip. Bob Newhart delivers as only he can...

(When he was performing stand-up, he was known as "the button-down mind.")
