Evolution and Adultery - Science Run Amuck

Obviously our culture wants to do anything and everything to eliminate the "s" (sin) word from its existence and based up this latest study, we now have the perfect excuse as to why a wife would cheat on her husband. Are you ready for this?
According to the article (which I will post below), when a wife has "wandering eye" it is only because she wants to "improve the species." Based upon a study done by researchers from the University of California, Los Angeles and the University of New Mexico, "The pool of exceptional men is only so big. When a woman finds a sexy man, she innately deduces that he has better genes to pass on to a baby." How is that for an excuse? The article goes on to say that "men who are less attractive seem to have an innate sense to guard their ovulating wives from other men by showering attention on them and acting particularly possessive." It further states, "Put more crudely, ovulating women who are married to men who score low on the "stud scale" tend to notice men whose faces, voices, odors and demeanor could be deemed more masculine. The men have to protect what is theirs."
I have a far more simple reason as to why a wife (or for that matter a husband) would have a "wandering eye" and would cheat on her husband (or a husband on his wife) - SIN! According to the authoritative Word of God we read -
Ephesians 2:1-3
1 And you were dead in your trespasses and sins, 2 in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience. 3 Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest.
What is sad is that the so-called "science of evolution" (which by the way is only a theory, and not a very good one at that) is now (or still) being used to justify sin. It is the theory of evolution that drove Hitler to seek the annihilation of the Jews. And, unknown to most people, evolution teaches that women are an "inferior race" to that of man. Consider the following:
A review of the most prominent late 19th century writings by biologists focusing on Charles Darwin reveals that a major plank of evolution theory was the belief that women were intellectually and physically inferior to men. Female inferiority was a logical conclusion of the natural selection worldview because men were exposed to far greater selective pressures than women, especially in war, competition for mates, food and clothing. Conversely, women were protected from evolutionary selection by norms which dictated that men were to provide for and protect women and children. Darwinists taught that as a result of this protection, natural selection operated far more actively on males, producing male superiority in virtually all skill areas. As a result, males evolved more than females. The female inferiority doctrine is an excellent example of the armchair logic that has often been more important in establishing evolutionary theory than fossil and other empirical evidence. (Jerry Bergman - http://www.answersingenesis.org/tj/v14/i1/females.asp)
So, for all you evolution fans, there's a big problem. You can use it to justify the sin of adultery, but you must then acknowledge the inferiority of women. But if Darwin was wrong about women, then it just as reasonable that he, and others like him, were wrong about evolution.
Again, I will take Scripture at its word:
Genesis 1:27
God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.
Galatians 3:28
There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
Men and women have been created in the image of God and He has given specific roles for each in order to bring Him glory. As it is written:
1 Peter 3:7
You husbands in the same way, live with your wives in an understanding way, as with someone weaker, since she is a woman; and show her honor as a fellow heir of the grace of life, so that your prayers will not be hindered.
I will take God at His Word and leave the conflicting and demeaning theory of evolution to run amuck.

Interpretation of my previous comment: I am amazed the lengths unregenerate man will go to justify sin. But then... I am not sure why I am amazed.

Here is a message that Lorna, my woman preacher commenter on my site from Finland, left on my blog after reading your post that I linked to:

She wrote:
Dear Lisa,
There are better arguments - much better ones, scientific ones- AGAINST the theory of evolution than what you wrote here "And, unknown to most people, evolution teaches that women are an "inferior race" to that of man. ... So, for all you evolution fans, there's a big problem. You can use it to justify the sin of adultery, but you must then acknowledge the inferiority of women. But if Darwin was wrong about women, then it just as reasonable that he, and others like him, were wrong about evolution..."

Faith is based on what we believe and don't see (Heb 11) but it's also based on reason.
See 1 Jn 1 - That which we have SEEN with our eyes, which we have LOOKED AT and our hands have TOUCHED. and 1 Jn 1:3 We proclaim to you what we have SEEN and HEARD so that you may also have fellowship with us - ... with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ.

There is NO scientific evidence for evolution - and knowing those facts rather than just spurting that if people believe in evolution they also have to believe women are inferior may be more effective witness IMHO:

For the record I think adultery is a sin too.

That said I believe the Gospel is for sinners - otherwise you and I would not be here - and I think it's good to remember it, and not close our lives (our minds, hearts, homes, wallets or fridges) to those who are 'not deserving'

There are heaps of sins out there- e.g. gossip, slander, hate which are - in God's eyes - as much of a barrier to relationship with Him as some of those you mention in your post.

Truth without LOVE is not truth and will not set anyone free. We are called to love the sinner -not their sin of course -but to love them, and not just in theory but in practice. That's where the rubber meets the road. A lot of the people out there aren't deserving, aren't appreciative, and at times make us want to pull our hair out - but the way we treat each other -also within the body of Christ - bears LOVING witness to our faith.

IMHO sneering at people (and I'm sorry to say that's what parts of your post reads like) for believing something different to you is not good Christian witness.

We are to confront in love - and you've done that e.g. to me - faithfully, lovingingly and according to your understanding of scripture in a very respectful way and I appreciate that - but this post has a sneering attitute and shows a lack of respect for the people who mistakenly believe in evolution.

You can sneer at the theory, but IMHO the minute you sneer at the person, you too fail the mark God has sent.

He judges our heart, above all, our heart.

Be blessed.

What I find interesting about Lorna's comments is the idea that I was using the evolution/adultery link as some kind of ironclad argument against evolution. I am well aware and well versed in the deficiencies of evolutionary theory. My point was to show the depravity of people who use anything and everything to justify their sin. As the Apostle Paul noted in Romans 1:21-22;

21 For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
22 Professing to be wise, they became fools,

My point was to reveal this foolish link in light of God's revealed Word.

I originally wrote: "I am amazed the lengths unregenerate man will go to justify sin."

What I should have written:
Both regenerate and unregenerate man go to extraordinary lengths to justify or gloss over sin. Such is the depravity of man.

It takes very little effort for the unsaved to justify sin of any nature. Heck! for that matter it takes very little foe anyone to justify sin!

The point is, Sin is in all of us. The difference is that the Holy Spirit gives us a compass that allows us to know God's unchanging will for our lives and not that of man's. Man's is more like a weather vane than a compass.

As for the Woman inferior to man thing, I fail to see which one would be inferior to the other based on scripture.

If the story ended at Wives obey your husbands, that would be one thing. However, God also says Husbands love your wives as Christ loved the church. Understanding that Christ loved the church so much he was crucified for it leads me to believe that man should value his wife enough that he would die for her. That doesn't sound like she's inferior to me.

In the end, God's plan for governance among a family has no baring on which sex is inferior to the other. It's like arguing how many angels can fit on the head of a pin....

...it's irrelevant.

Just stumbled on to your blog. Great stuff.
